Bruxie, the chickens and waffle spot known for its frozen custard, has jumped on the Girl Scoot Cookie season wagon with a new Exploremores Shake which will be available through March 15.

A portion of proceeds made from sales of the limited-time shake will be donated to Girl Scout troops in Orange County and the Greater Los Angeles area.

The shake features chocolate, marshmallow, and toasted almonds — an homage to the same-named cookie, a new addition to the Girl Scouts’ offerings this year. It’s like a bite of s’mores, but without the campfire.

I ordered the shake at our local Bruxie near the Belmont Pier. When employee Andrea Alcantara served it, she thanked me for supporting Girl Scouts and asked if I had a connection to score the cookies locally.

Alcantara offered to send me the sales link for Long Beach Girl Scout Margaret, who has been supplying her cookies for years. Shortly after, sixth grader Margaret “Margy” Kuhlman was on speaker with her mom, Troop 70403’s cookie “chairmom” Dani Ornelas.

The mother daughter duo had just returned home from delivering cookies.

Though Girl Scout Cookie season has just begun, Kuhlman has already sold 345 boxes and is making steady progress towards her goal of selling 1,250 in total. This year, she and her fellow troop members have decided to skip the sales incentive prizes for themselves, instead opting to donate their earnings to their major project this year — helping out kids in foster care.

“We want to help purchase items that children in foster care often don’t receive, like suitcases,” Kuhlman said over the phone.

But the Girl Scouts will still get a reward from their hard work this year. If they meet their donation goals, they’re planning to celebrate with a trip to Disneyland.

Cookie distribution started in earnest on Jan. 31, with troops descending on Santa Anita Park and other distribution centers with SUVs, pick-up trucks, and u-hauls to collect their goods for the season.

“We distributed 2.6 million packages of cookies throughout Greater LA last Saturday. It was a huge effort, and a perfect example of Girl Scouts teamwork,” Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles CEO Theresa Edy Kiene, wrote in an email. “When you see Girl Scouts in your community – maybe at your front door – please support them. They are building their confidence and practicing things like managing money and group decision-making with their troop friends.”

Local Girl Scout troops will be selling cookies all over Belmont Shore and Long Beach generally this weekend.

You can find specific booth sites on girlscouts.org via the “cookie finder,” but here are some places they’ll be selling:

Friday, Feb. 6: Chase Bank, 5200 E. 2nd St., from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 7: Molly Moon Salon, 5039 E. Ocean Blvd., noon to 6 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 8: Lash Lounge, 4805 E. Second St., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

To locate cookies near you, go to girlscouts.org or text COOKIES to 59618. Girl Scout Cookie sales will end on March 8.

Noble Rotisserie relocates

Noble Rotisserie is moving to a new location at 2ND & PCH.

They will be reopening in a location inside the center, closer to the many activities that 2ND & PCH hosts.

The new location — in the center’s pavilion near the water fountain — is smaller than the eatery was before.

“The smaller footprint reduces overhead, aligns our operations with guest demand, and allows us to operate sustainably at a time when many independent restaurants are navigating significant pressure,” said owner Sidney Price in an email.

The Price family’s Noble Bird Rotisserie is known for its dairy, peanut,  and tree nut-free menu. For many, this eatery is one of the only places that people with allergies are able to enjoy a meal.

“What isn’t changing is the heart of our business,” Price said. “Our values, our cooking standards, and our commitment to serving our guests with transparency and care remain as strong as ever.”
