LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Descanso Gardens debuts World Pollinators, a new large-scale botanical sculpture exhibition at the Descanso Railroad. The exhibition spotlights the unexpected and essential pollinators found across the globe – from moths and beetles to bats, birds, lemurs, and geckos.
The installation features ten oversized botanical sculptures, each measuring approximately 3-6 feet tall and intentionally scaled for visual impact and close-up viewing. Each work pairs a pollinator with its corresponding plant and is handcrafted entirely from natural materials.
Visual highlights include a yucca moth sculpted from driftwood and palm fiber, a long-tongued fruit bat with wings formed from roots and leaves, and a black-and-white ruffed lemur rendered from moss, seed pods, bark, and fibers – all installed throughout the Descanso Railroad landscape.
Pollinators represented include:
Yucca Moth & Yucca Flower (North America)
Red Milkweed Beetle & Butterfly Milkweed (North America)
Long-Tongued Fruit Bat & Banana Flower (Southeast Asia)
