Waves as tall as 10 feet will hit west-facing beaches starting Friday, producing dangerous rip currents along the entire San Diego County coastline, the National Weather Service says.

A high surf advisory will go into effect at 10 a.m. Friday and last until 6 a.m. Sunday. Most sets will be in the 5-to-8-foot range, but periodically larger sets are likely.

Forecasters say the waves could cause minor tidal overflow during late morning high tide on Friday and early afternoon high tide on Saturday.

The waves are part of shifting weather conditions across San Diego County. Daytime high temperatures in San Diego will be substantially cooler on Friday, reaching 67, which is roughly the seasonal average. The temperature will hit 68 on Saturday and 73 on Sunday.

The cooler weather will last well into next week and could feature light rain beginning on Tuesday. San Diego hasn’t had any substantial rain since Jan. 5.
