In last week’s Eagle & Journal, a letter writer argued that Democrats are skilled at criticizing what they oppose, but fail to articulate what they support. Allow me to offer a clear answer.

We support presidents who defend free and fair elections grounded in facts. We support leaders who treat all people with dignity and grace. We support presidents who respect science, truth, and evidence—and who understand that expertise matters. We support presidents who respect women, the Constitution, and the separation of powers that safeguards our democracy. We support presidents who believe in the rule of law and recognize that no one—not even the president—is above it.

We support presidents who conserve and strengthen the institutions that make this country work. We support leaders who value learning and intellectual curiosity, who read, think, and reflect. We support presidents who honor the service and sacrifice of fallen veterans without exploiting them for personal grievance or political gain. We support leaders who are magnanimous rather than petty, steady rather than vindictive.

We support presidents who build strong alliances, recognizing that cooperation—not isolation—makes the world safer and America stronger.

Ultimately, we support presidents who earn our respect and make us proud to be Americans.
