FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — A child predator is now heading to prison after a Fresno County Court Commissioner sentenced Carlos Gonzalez to three years on Thursday.

“He deserves every single day of those three years,” prosecutor Amber Collins said.

Prosecutors say Gonzalez preyed on minors, using the messaging app Kik to meet with teens for sex.

He is a former substitute teacher.

“These were two separate undercovers that the defendant was chatting with at identical times,” Collins said.

In one of the messages to the police, Gonzalez equated young girls to cars with low mileage. Others are too graphic for Action News to report, and even the court commissioner said the case is “disturbing.”

“When a child goes off to school, that schoolteacher then becomes the parent,” Action News Legal analyst Tony Capozzi said.

“It’s so important that the trust is there, and when that’s violated, it’s a much more egregious crime,” he added.

In all, Gonzalez faced nine charges. He pleaded no contest to three charges, including arranging and meeting with children and distributing porn.

“He was, like, ‘I knew better. I knew this was wrong. Why did I do this?'” defense attorney Kiley Clevenger said.

“He wanted to understand and correct the behavior that gave rise to this, so I immediately referred him over to Dr. Zavala,” the attorney said.

The court commissioner appeared unmoved and denied the possibility of probation.

He urged Gonzalez to continue treatment in prison.

“Defendants who are charged and have pled guilty to some kind of sexual abuse with children are treated pretty badly by the other inmates,” Capozzi said. “I’d be very curious to see how this treatment is going to be administered in the prison system.”
