The suspects jumped into a dark-colored SUV that went east toward Rochester Hills. Police were unsure if they left campus.

The victim and suspects are not students at Oakland University, police say.

Students say they were notified about the incident around 8:50 p.m. A heavy police presence, including campus police, Auburn Hills police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the campus in Rochester.

“It’s really scary just because I thought this was a safe university,” a freshman told us. “I’m not saying this one instance defines the university as a whole, but stuff like this shouldn’t happen, especially if, not only are we paying to go here, but we’re here to not only get our education but feel safe.”

Students are being told to be vigilant and travel in groups as the lockdown is in place.
