Curren Price collapses at city hall days after judge orders trial
Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price fainted at City Hall on Wednesday and was taken to a hospital, interrupting a Black History Month celebration.
Price, 75, collapsed during an event highlighting prominent Black women leaders and an exhibit titled “When Black Women Lead: Communities Thrive, Everybody Wins.” The program took place on a bridge connecting City Hall and City Hall East.
Paramedics arrived within minutes and transported him by ambulance to Los Angeles General Medical Center. Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson later told colleagues that Price was alert and in stable condition.
A spokesperson said doctors evaluated him as a precaution. Officials have not released additional medical details.
The incident came days after a judge ordered Price to stand trial on multiple felony corruption charges. Prosecutors accuse him of embezzlement, perjury, and voting on projects tied to his wife’s business, alleging he improperly benefited from city decisions.
Price has pleaded not guilty and has rejected the allegations made by prosecutors. He says he did not break the law, insists his actions were proper, and intends to fight the charges in court.
Council proceedings briefly paused as emergency crews responded.
Price has experienced similar incidents in the past. In October 2025, he fainted at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Los Angeles Convention Center expansion, which his office later attributed to dehydration.

After the incident, Price missed nearly a month of council meetings.
City leaders say Price would not return to council chambers on Wednesday. His office did not comment on whether he would resume duties this week.
The fainting incident occurred as Price prepared for an upcoming corruption trial while serving on the City Council.
