Long Beach residents can look forward to a full week of creative and educational community events. From art workshops, children’s activities, health & wellness events, outdoor gatherings and more, there’s an opportunity for everyone to learn, relax and connect. 

Art enthusiasts have a promising weekend ahead, with a hands-on space-themed craft for kids at Mark Twain Library on Friday, a downtown photography walk and collaborative art session on Saturday, and a creative drawing workshop at the Museum of Latin American Art on Sunday. 

Meanwhile, Long Beach’s littlest artists can visit local libraries to create a Picasso-inspired self-portrait on Wednesday or a papier-mâché craft celebrating World Space Week on Friday. 

There will be multiple events this coming week focused on community health, safety and accessibility. Long Beach’s Health Department will host free flu vaccination clinics at multiple local parks, helping residents protect themselves during flu season. Families can also learn how to prepare for emergencies at the annual Disaster Preparedness Fair, featuring live safety demonstrations. 

A recent assessment of the health and wellness of the local Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community will be presented at the upcoming city council meeting on Tuesday. Additionally, a workshop on ADA compliance at Recreation Park will help local business owners understand accessibility laws and create more inclusive public spaces.

Decorate a Papier-Mâché Telescope: 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Kids and teens are invited to the Mark Twain Neighborhood Library (1401 E. Anaheim St.) to celebrate World Space Week. Participants will create their own papier-mâché telescope and learn about space. All materials will be provided while supplies last. Free.

Saturday 10/11

20th Annual Japanese Classic Car Show: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Car enthusiasts are invited to Marina Green Park (386 E. Shoreline Drive) for this event celebrating vintage Japanese automobiles and the culture surrounding them. Admission is $20 when pre-purchased online or $25 at the door. Children under 12 enter free with an adult.

Harm Reduction and Narcan Workshop: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This workshop at the Long Beach Health Department (2525 Grand Ave.) will cover harm reduction principles, how to recognize the signs of overdose, how to use fentanyl test strips and where to access local resources. Free Narcan, fentanyl test strips, and educational materials will be available. Free to attend. 

Third Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration: Noon to 4 p.m. This celebration of Hispanic culture will culminate in a family-friendly community resource fair, featuring Aztec, Folklorico and Tamborazo dancing, free food, games, arts and crafts, a dance contest, immigration services, Medi-cal resources, free groceries and more at Chavez Park (401 Golden Ave.). Free. 

DTLB Unfiltered Photography Walks: Noon to 2 p.m. Photography enthusiasts are invited to join a guided Downtown Long Beach walk at Harvey Milk Promenade Park (185 E. Third St.) to capture photos for the annual DTLB Unfiltered photo contest. Participants can meet fellow photographers while exploring the area. Free.

Fix-It Clinic: Noon to 3 p.m. Residents can bring their broken jewelry, small appliances, clothing and toys in need of fixing to Sports Basement (2100 N. Bellflower Blvd.) to learn from fellow tinkerers, in partnership with the LB reuses Coalition, Algalita and Pedal Movement. Free.

Club Graphite: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Artists of all skill levels are invited to the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.) to sketch in a collaborative setting. Participants can bring their own projects or start something new. Supplies will be provided. This event is appropriate for adults and teens. Free.

Sunday 10/12

Corner Garden Workshop: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The public is invited to the Museum of Latin American Art (628 Alamitos Ave.) for a morning art workshop led by teaching artist Maria Guadalupe. Participants will create artwork using Conté crayons on paper. All materials will be provided. Registration through the museum’s website is required, and late arrivals (over 15 minutes) may forfeit their spot. Cost is $5.

Disaster Preparedness Fair: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to Veterans Memorial Stadium (5000 E. Lew Davis St.) for this annual event promoting emergency preparedness. The fair will feature vendors, demonstrations and family-friendly activities focused on building community resilience. Free.

Pagan Pride Day: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to Rainbow Lagoon Park (400 Shoreline Village Drive, Ste 403,) for Pagan Pride Day, an annual event organized by Pagan Pride Los Angeles, Inc. since 1999. The celebration will feature dozens of vendors offering crystals, books, herbs, candles and more, while sharing information about pagan beliefs and practices. The event aims to promote understanding and celebrate the diversity within the pagan community. Free admission.

Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Long Beach Animal Care Services (7700 E Spring St.) will be offering discounted vaccines and microchips for pets. Cats must be brought in carriers and dogs must be leashed. Services are available on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 60 pets. Treatment prices vary.

Printmaking Mondays: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This beginner-friendly space invites all people to create what their heart desires, with all supplies provided by PLACE LB (2172 Pacific Ave.). This is a pay-what-you-can event, and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds, but there is a suggested donation of $1-5.

NHPI Community Health Needs Assessment Presentation: 5 p.m. The public is invited to the Long Beach City Council Chambers (411 W. Ocean Blvd.) as the Health Department’s Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Community Advisory Committee and Racial and Health Equity Team present the 2025 Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Community Health Needs Assessment. The presentation will share key findings from the report and discuss its implications for the NHPI community. The council meeting starts at 5 p.m. Free.

Author Talk: 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Families and individuals of all ages are invited to the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.) to hear local author Juan Farias present his coloring book “Cempaschil.” Attendees will learn about the marigold flower’s role in honoring loved ones during Día de los Muertos and have the opportunity to color pages from the book. Artist of the Month: 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to the Los Altos Neighborhood Library (5614 E. Britton Drive) to create artwork inspired by famous artists. This month’s project features self-portraits in the style of Pablo Picasso. All materials will be provided. Free.

Attendees will learn about building code requirements, common violations and best practices for creating inclusive spaces. A Certified Access Specialist (CASp) will be available to answer questions. Spooky Book Nook Diorama: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to the Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W. Broadway) for a hands-on miniature-making workshop with a spooky, seasonal theme. Participants will create a diorama they can place on their bookshelves at home. All supplies will be provided. Space is limited to 15 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Free.
