(FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego County residents are excluded from the “Locals Only” ticket presale for the 2028 LA Summer Olympics. San Diego was announced as a host city for the soccer games and LA28 is offering exclusive “locals only” tickets for some residents of certain counties in California and Oklahoma.

According to the LA28 website, “Fans who live in eligible zip codes can enter into a drawing by March 18 for a chance to later purchase tickets starting at $28.”

How to get tickets for LA28 Summer Olympics

Early access is available only for some Oklahoma residents and the California counties included are Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura.

“It includes a few surrounding Los Angeles and then like one in Oklahoma City because they’re hosting some games as well,” said San Diego resident and soccer fan Joseph Lipets.

Lipets wrote a letter to local leaders and LA28 asking for clarification. In his letter to the organization, he wrote, “I respectfully request clarification on how locals presale eligibility was determined and ask that LA28 reconsider including San Diego County in the locals presale program. At a minimum, it would be helpful to understand why residents of a host city are being treated differently from residents of other regions included in the presale.”

Lipets said no one has responded and he feels San Diego residents should have the chance to participate as well.

FOX 5/KUSI took the same question to LA28 and requested an interview with a representative to discuss the policy. An LA28 spokesperson sent a statement that read: “Football (soccer) venues will not be included in the early access ticket pre-sale. LA28 is committed to working closely with each venue and city supporting the Games to engage with its fans and residents and encourage anyone interested in tickets to take the first step of registering for the LA28 Ticket Draw.”
