SAN DIEGO – Just before he was going to stand trial for murder, Andrew Phillip Restrepo pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and also to injuring another victim, in cases from Ocean Beach and the Midway.

Restrepo, 34, was to have stood trial on Feb. 2 for the death of Sean Glenn. Restrepo punched Glenn, who fell, hitting his head on the pavement in the 5000 block of Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach on May 10, 2023.

Glenn, 34, died after three months in a coma.

Restrepo entered the plea on Jan. 30. He also pleaded guilty to felony assault for punching another man on an MTS bus in the Midway area in a month before the fatal encounter.

Deputy District Attorney Jessica Sutterley said Restrepo will receive 11 years in prison for manslaughter, plus one year consecutively for the bus assault, for a total prison term of 12 years. A murder charge was dropped.

One witness at the April 9 preliminary hearing told the court that Restrepo gave “a Superman punch” to Glenn. Sutterley said Restrepo has had training in martial arts.

Store surveillance cameras showed an ambulance appearing to take Glenn to a hospital. After Restrepo was arrested, his camera showed that he had taken photos of the ambulance that night and sent them to five people while he was across the street.

Restrepo was entering a pizza shop in Ocean Beach when Glenn accidentally brushed by him upon leaving. Restrepo took offense, and minutes later asked Glenn outside why he touched him, witnesses said. Glenn said he didn’t know what Restrepo was talking about and then was punched.

Restrepo was arrested on Aug. 27, 2024. He remains in jail without bail.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Fraser set his sentencing for March 6.
