BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — University Police Chief Mari Gonzalez revealed that a third-party vendor failed to process some names in the alert system, leading to complaints from students and staff who did not receive notifications during a recent lockdown at California State University, Bakersfield.

Gonzalez said, “They did find an issue with a third party vendor, basically not processing some of the names that were on that list that needed to be added.”

Despite the alert issues, Gonzalez praised the response from law enforcement and the community, noting that the Bakersfield Police Department and Kern County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the threat, which was later confirmed to be a false alarm.

Gonzalez, a CSUB alum and now University Police Chief, experienced her first lockdown situation on campus, stating, “From a standpoint of not having had to lock down the campus before, and even as a student, not having been on lockdown myself. That was great to see that response.”

The vendor issue has since been resolved, and a campus-wide text message will be sent to ensure the alert system is functioning. Those who do not receive the message are advised to contact university police or IT to verify their contact information.
