On Nov. 25, 2025, Delah Coffee owner Majed Jahamee was served with a complaint for failure to pay rent. The complaint was filed by property owner Rue-Ell Enterprises Inc.

Delah Coffee is a specialty Yemeni coffee shop with locations spanning across the Bay Area.

The complaint claims that Delah Coffee failed to fully pay its rent during September, October and November of last year. The unpaid amount allegedly totaled an estimated $10,586.91.

According to the complaint, Delah Coffee was served with a notice Nov. 10 to pay its owed rent balance or vacate the premises within three days. It also alleged that Delah Coffee failed to comply by the time period expressed in the notice and remained on premises past the three-day window.

The complaint claims that Rue-Ell Enterprises Inc. is entitled to immediate possession of the premises. The property owner is also seeking to be paid the full amount of the unpaid rent, receive financial compensation for additional damages and the termination of the lease.

Delah Coffee and Rue-Ell Enterprises Inc. did not respond to a request for a comment as of press time.

Delah Coffee opened its doors to the Berkeley community in September 2023. Since then, it has been known for serving specialty coffee and providing its customers with a taste of Yemen.

In Oct. 2024, Delah Coffee became home to two kittens, Oreo and Katya, which would freely roam the cafe.

Delah Coffee was also a study spot for campus students.

“The people were super sweet, the drinks were delicious, and I always got a lot of work done there,” said Delah Coffee regular Tiva Gandhi in an email. “I am really sad they will not be here. All the businesses and shops close to my heart have been closing. It is really sad to see.”

Several city government officials have previously held office hours at Delah Coffee, including District 6 Councilmember Brent Blackaby and Mayor Adena Ishii. The councilmember and mayor said they plan to hold office hours elsewhere in the future, and that Delah was just one of several office hour locations.

“We’re sad to see Delah go,” Blackaby said. “(We) are looking at other spots on Euclid as well for future events.”
