SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A new phone app is helping people get the most budget-friendly option from rideshare services each time, according to a report from SFGate.
Hackney was started by Griffin Li, a 19-year-old who was inspired by a recent trip to the Bay Area, where he got around using rideshare, according to the report.
The app aggregates Uber, Lyft and Waymo pricing from a user’s account before compiling the prices all live on one screen and showing which of the three has the most affordable prices, according to the report.
Estimated time arrivals, consumer demand and time of day are some of the key factors that impact prices on rideshare apps, according to Obi, an app that runs a similar model to Hackney.
“Consumers don’t have all the information at once,” Li told SFGATE. “They have to sort of make suboptimal decisions and spend more money. And this is just a way to help.”
