LONG BEACH, Calif. – The LMU women’s tennis team battled through a gritty road matchup on Friday afternoon, edging Long Beach State 4-3 behind a dominant singles rebound after dropping the doubles point.

LMU found themselves in an early hole after LBSU clinched doubles with wins on courts two and three, including a 6-2 setback at both lines. Court one remained unfinished at 4-5, leaving the Lions eager to flip the momentum heading into singles play.

And they did exactly that.

On court one, Lidia Gonzalez delivered LMU’s first point with a composed straight-sets win, earning a 6-2, 6-4 victory to pull the Lions even. At No. 4 singles, Helene Schnack kept the energy rolling with one of LMU’s most convincing performances of the afternoon, securing a 6-3, 6-2 win.

The Lions reclaimed full control as Sofia Perovani outlasted Daria Malaescu in a three-set battle at No. 5, taking the deciding set 6-2 after opening the match by handing her opponent a bagel with a dominant 6-0 first set.

With tension rising and Long Beach State fighting to stay alive, Kim-Michaela Zahraj delivered the clinching point at No. 6. After splitting the first two sets, Zahraj surged ahead in the final set to close out a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 victory and lock in the team win for LMU.

Despite strong efforts across the board, LBSU held on for wins on courts two and three, but LMU’s four singles triumphs were enough to secure the road victory.

The win showcases LMU’s resilience and depth, overcoming an early doubles setback and bringing home a hard-earned result against a tough opponent.
