UPDATE (2:00 p.m.):
LA MESA, Calif. (CNS) — The La Mesa police department has cleared Helix High School around 1:15 this afternoon, with no threat found.
Helix High School and San Diego High School were both in lockdown after receiving similar, virtually simultaneous, unfounded threats of violence today.
The threats were received from the same number in the late morning at Helix Charter High School in La Mesa and San Diego High in the East Village, according to police.
School administrators kept students and staff secured indoors while officers searched the campuses and their environs, finding no hazards, authorities said.
Normal operations were underway again at the schools as of early afternoon.
It was unclear if the threats were related, though their timing and other similarities suggested that they likely were, according to police.
Details on the nature of the threats were not released.
