Fumiko “Mickey” Maruya, a longtime resident of Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 94.

Mickey, a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, Bachan and great Bachan, will always be remembered as a devoted member of her community, for providing exceptional hair care and facials as the beloved owner since 1981 of Bijin Salon in Monterey Park, where she was recognized by the city for celebrating 40 years in the business community.  

She will be cherished for her generous spirit in volunteering at Keiro Retirement Community for more than 40 years, providing haircuts and hair coloring to senior residents and at Union Church for cooking meals for many years. 

Her enthusiasm for the Dodgers was infectious and displayed all around her house with her treasured bobblehead collection. 

Mickey also organized her famous Las Vegas weekend getaway bus trips for 43 years, always providing first-class service for her customers. 

Mickey will be greatly missed for her skilled hands, warm heart, dedication to service, and the joy she brought to everyone around her.

She is survived and forever loved by her husband of 72 years, Al Maruya; sister, Michiye Takahasi; five children, Gordon (Susan Liu) Maruya, Cynthia (Frank) Maruya-Adkins, Craig (Robin Kushi) Maruya, Caroline (Christine Lee) Maruya, and Sharon (Phil Shin) Maruya Shin; grandchildren, Christopher (Shobana Anbazhagan) Adkins, Jillian (Robert Gilbert) Adkins, Timothy Adkins, Lauren Maruya, Russell Maruya, Kasey Maruya, and Will Shin; great-grandchildren, Henley Gilbert and Farrah Adkins; she is also survived by nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
