The Millikan boys basketball team has not lost in more than a month and will carry an 11-game win streak into the CIF Southern Section playoffs that begin next week.

The Rams finished the regular season 22-6 overall and 12-0 in the Moore League. They earned their first league title since 2020.

In league play, they swept their two games against Long Beach Poly, including a championship-clinching victory, 66-57, on Monday.

When the CIF-SS playoff pairings are released Saturday, the Rams are hoping to hear that they will be in Division 1. Last season they were in Division 2AA.

“When I got here, we were on the way to Division 5,” said Millikan second-year coach Stephon Price. “From a Division 5 program to a Division 1 program, that’s nothing short of amazing. I didn’t do it by myself. I have a great team behind me, great players.”

Senior guard Joseph Wicker, who scored a game-high 32 points in the recent win against Poly, has championship pedigree after winning a CIF-SS title at St. Anthony as a sophomore. Wicker knows the urgency needed to have postseason success.

“We all just have to buy in together,” Wicker said. “Stay together. Stay locked in, especially on the defensive end. That’s where we’re going to get it done in the majority of all the games.”

Here’s a look at the other area boys basketball teams that won league titles:

La Mirada (22-6, 8-0) won the title outright in the Gateway League. It was the program’s fifth straight league title dating back to 2022 in the Suburban League.

The Matadores have won 24 consecutive Gateway League games over the past three seasons.

The Matadores are on a 14-game win streak behind the strong play of senior leaders Andrew Castro and King-Riley Owens and junior starters Gene Roebuck, Jordyn Houston and Cisco Munoz.

La Mirada is seeking the program’s second straight playoff berth in the Open Division.

“We’re always trying to get better,” La Mirada coach Randy Oronoz said. “That’s the bottom line.”

St. John Bosco finished 20-7 overall and shared the Trinity League regular-season title, their second straight league title and third in the last four years. However, the Braves will enter the playoffs as the league’s No. 2 seed after losing to Santa Margarita 57-56 in the league tournament final Wednesday.

Bosco has only two losses to CIF-SS teams, Orange Lutheran and Santa Margarita. The Braves will likely earn the program’s eighth appearance in nine seasons in the Open Division.

Warren (21-6, 10-0) won the league title outright in the Mid-Cities League. The Bears will enter the postseason on a 13-game win streak. They have not dropped a game since a 62-53 loss to Newport Harbor on Dec. 29. …

Cerritos (17-11, 9-1) split the 605 League title with rival Pioneer (25-3, 9-1). The Dons won their first CIF-SS title in 2024.
