SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women’s golf team hosts the annual San Diego State Classic Monday through Tuesday at The Heights Golf Club. Teams will play 36 holes and then 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
10 of the 12 schools competing are from California. The Aztecs will go against California Baptist, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State San Marcos, Fresno State, Northern Colorado, Oregon State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, UC Davis, UC Irvine and UC Riverside. Only CS Fullerton and Oregon State are ranked in the top 50.
The Aztecs closed out the fall season with a pair of strong performances. They placed 10th out of 19 in New Mexico State’s Golf Iconic Classic with a seven-over-par 871, the team’s lowest score in two years, and then placed eighth (out of 19) at the competitive Rainbow Wahine Classic in the final tournament of the fall.
SDSU began the spring season with a head-to-head dual win over Long Beach State last Sunday with Ema Narita tying for first.
SDSU’s lineup for the match will be Ema Narita, Kylie Phi, Stephanie Barbaglia, Emilia Omander and Manon Martin. Emma Delwes will be playing as an individual.
Narita (Tokyo, Japan) leads the Aztecs with a 284-55-11 record and a stroke average of 72.5. She closed out the fall season with a T-6th finish (out of 112) with a four-under-par 212 that featured a career-best 67 first round.
Phi (Fountain Valley, Calif.) has a 245-93-12 record and a 73.38 stroke average. She tied for 6th (out of 103) at the Golf Iconic Classic with a career-best four-under-par 212 that included a career-low four-under-par 68 opening round.
Barbaglia (Johannesburg, South Africa) had a consistent fall, shooting between a 72 and 76 in her last 10 rounds. She has started every tournament for the Aztecs since the beginning of 2023-24 season.
Omander (Cologne, Germany) made her first start of the 2025-26 season against Long Beach and shot a five-over-par 77, which was good for T-7th out of 12. She played in eight tournaments as a freshman last year and had her best showing at the San Diego State Classic with an eight-over-par 224 (T-27th).
Freshman Manon Martin (Courbevoie, France) won Mountain West Freshman of the Week after a ninth-place finish against Long Beach State. She played in two tournaments in the fall, averaging 77.3 strokes per 18 holes.
Delwes (Verden, Germany) appeared in three tournaments in the fall and shot a career-best five-over-par 221 at the Golf Iconic Classic.
The Aztecs’ home course, The Farms Golf Club, is undergoing renovation, therefore the tournament will be played at the nearby Heights Golf Club for the second straight year. The course plays 6,376 yards (6,356 on Tuesday) and is a par 72.
Monday’s forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching the low 70s. It will be colder with more clouds on Tuesday.
