SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Dozens of Sacramento bars are gearing up for the Super Bowl, with local businesses preparing for large crowds and heightened excitement.

“We get a pretty packed house. We do a customer appreciation thing, so we make a whole bunch of free food for halftime. It’s usually on the patio out there and we just try to have a good time watching football,” Matthew Lopez, general manager at The Zebra Club, told KCRA 3.

Super Bowl LX, featuring the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, is being played just a two-hour drive from Sacramento, but its impacts have been felt well beyond Levi’s Stadium.

On Thursday, Tom Brady visited DOCO during Super Bowl week to unveil his new business, CardVault.

“We did have a lot of people coming in for lunch that day. A lot more than normal,” said Will Gonzalez, operating partner at Tom’s Watch Bar.

“It’s the biggest day of the year for us. Company-wide, we have like 19 locations on this,” Gonzalez added.

As bars and fans make their game plans, the California Highway Patrol is urging people to make responsible decisions.

“The biggest message we want to push across is, is that responsible decision, designate a sober driver if you’re going to be out there, consuming alcohol or any other intoxicating substance,” said Sgt. Andrew Barclay with the California Highway Patrol.

The Super Bowl is a major event in the Sacramento region, with more people expected to be out watching the game.

“Plan to see extra people out there, our focus is on DUI, and that’s what were going to be really focusing on this weekend,” Barclay said.
