The man accused of the murder of a 22-year-old Long Beach State student was arraigned on Tuesday, Oct. 21, pleading not guilty.
Alejandro Iniestra, 34, faces charges of murder under Penal Code 187 for the off-campus stabbing and killing of industrial design student Spencer Timms and attempted murder under Penal Code 664 for the stabbing of another 29-year-old man.
The stabbings took place at the 1300 block of Temple Avenue in Long Beach on Oct. 4. Timms was pronounced dead at the scene and the other victim was hospitalized in stable condition. The three men were alleged to be roommates, police said.
Iniestra appeared at the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse in Downtown Long Beach on Tuesday afternoon in a blue jumpsuit. The arraignment lasted about three minutes.
Judge Christopher Frisco read Iniestra his rights, asking him if he understood.
He responded with a soft “yes.”
Iniestra is being held with a bail of $3.02 million at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic. His next preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 8.
