TEMPE – Sun Devil Women’s Tennis defeated San Diego, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at Whiteman Tennis Center in its only home match in February. ASU has won 10 of its last 11 matches over San Diego following today’s win.
The Sun Devils will head to Malibu, Calif. next weekend, Feb. 15, to take on No. 19 Pepperdine at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center at 11 a.m. MST. Live stats can be found on StatBroadcast and followed on the team’s social media accounts on X @SunDevilWTennis and on Instagram at @SunDevilWtennis.

In doubles, the Sun Devils started the match strong with a 6-2 victory from graduate Vivian Ovrootsky and junior Emilija Tverijonaite on court one. Sophomore Lily Taylor and junior Karsyn Evans clinched the doubles point for ASU with a 7-5 win after fighting back from a 2-5 deficit. Sara Svetac and Zlata Bartanusz on court two were battling back, down 6-5 when it was declared unfinished.
In singles, No. 16 Emilija Tverijonaite earned her third dual win of the spring, defeating her third-ranked opponent of the season with a 6-4, 6-0 straight sets win over No. 94 Hannah Read. Svetac got her second win of the spring with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Vil Krebs Hyllested which gave the Sun Devils a 3-1 lead. Then, Ovrootsky clinched the match on court two with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-sets win to clinch the dual against San Diego.
Taylor would go on and win her match on court No. 4, 7-5, 6-3, to give ASU a fifth point, then Evans would win the tiebreaker in the second set, 7-4, to win 6-1, 7-6 to solidify the win for ASU.
