An illegal street takeover in Long Beach early Sunday left one car fully engulfed in flames and a separate crash that injured two people, police said.
The street takeover was reported around 3:05 a.m. on Feb. 8 near Via Oro Avenue and West Carson Street, where officers dispersed a large crowd. During the takeover, one car caught fire, which was extinguished by the Long Beach Fire Department, police said in a statement.
Video by OC Hawk, a freelance news organization, shows firefighters battling the blaze as flames shoot from the car and loud popping sounds can be heard. Police have not reported any injuries related to the fire and have not confirmed whether anyone was inside the car when it broke out. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Officers also located a separate car crash that police said occurred during the takeover. One car struck another, damaging nearby property as well as an unoccupied parked car. The driver who caused the crash fled the scene before officers arrived, police said, while two people in the other car had minor injuries.
Police have not said how many people were involved in the street takeover or specified the property damage. The investigation into the takeover, the car fire and the crash is ongoing.
