(FOX40.COM) — A male juvenile was taken into custody Sunday afternoon following a multi-agency pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that began near River City High School.
According to the West Sacramento Police Department, at about 1:30 p.m. officers responded to a report of a recently stolen white Mercedes near the school. Crews later found the vehicle as it was leaving the Target parking lot at 2005 Town Center Plaza.
West Sacramento police said officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield which prompted a pursuit that lasted about eight minutes. The chase stopped after officers encountered heavy traffic and a construction zone, citing increased public safety concerns.
Air support continued to monitor the vehicle as it traveled into Sacramento and later into Woodland, police said.

Authorities stated that Woodland police and Yolo County Sheriff’s deputies reinitiated the pursuit. Deputies continued following the suspect as the vehicle came back to West Sacramento.
After a while, officials said West Sacramento police successfully deployed spike strips once the vehicle reentered the city. The suspect then drove back to the Target parking lot and attempted to flee on foot before being arrested by Yolo County deputies at around 3:22 p.m.
One crash did occur during the pursuit near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Industrial Boulevard, WSPD said. The collision involved the suspect vehicle and another motorist, resulting in minor damage.
WSPD stated that no injuries have been reported.
The suspect, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, is known to law enforcement, West Sacramento police reported.
Officials mentioned that this was at least the third stolen vehicle pursuit involving the same individual since November.
The investigation remains ongoing.
