FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A family is mourning the loss of their grandmother and her grandson, who were killed during a fire in Southeast Fresno.
The flames broke out inside a unit at Willow Court Retirement Community on Tuesday morning.
Firefighters found 66-year-old Rita Avila and 22-year-old Joseph Irelan inside.
They also discovered five dead pets: four cats and a dog.
A relative spoke to Action News about how difficult it’s been to lose two members of their family.
”Everyone’s heart is just broken, and we’re all just trying to get through it the best way that we can, and the fact that my cousin has to bury her child, it’s like, how do you do that? How do you do this and mourn your mom at the same time and plan her service?” says Autumn Avila, a family member.
If you’d like to help the family during this time, we will have a link to their GoFundMe here.
