ATWATER VILLAGE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A police chase ended in a violent crash early Sunday morning in Atwater Village, where a pickup truck went airborne and crashed onto two parked vehicles, startling residents from their sleep.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the DUI pursuit started just before 1 a.m. near Hoover Street and 95th Street.

The driver of a black truck led officers north before hitting another vehicle in an intersection, losing control and rolling over.

Ring doorbell footage captured the moment the truck turned sharply off Los Feliz Boulevard onto Brunswick Avenue, launched into the air and slammed onto the parked cars.

The driver of the truck was hospitalized with serious injuries. One person in another vehicle reported pain, but police said no major injuries to bystanders were reported.

“I thought someone had driven through my house, and when I came out here, there was a car on top of this car and the back part of the car was smashed on top of my car,” said Lance Reyes. “I was just in shock. I didn’t know what to think. It looked like it had fallen from the sky and just smashed down on everything.”

Some witnesses believed another person may have been inside the truck and taken into custody, though LAPD has not confirmed that detail.

Police said the investigation into the pursuit and crash remains ongoing. The driver’s name has not been released.
