Renters across the Los Angeles region can submit applications starting Monday for the county’s second round of its Emergency Rent Relief Program.
The application portal opened Monday at 9 a.m., and will remain open until March 11 at 4:59 p.m. Tenants, landlords and displaced homeowners who experienced emergency-related financial hardship are encouraged to apply.
Applicants can apply at lacountyrentrelief.com. Tenants can also apply by phone through approved program partners.
The program provides grants of up to six months of relief with a maximum award of $15,000 per unit. Assistance may cover unpaid rental or mortgage debt, eligible utilities and other verified housing-related expenses.
County officials launched the application portal for the first round of the program in December, which ended in January. A total of 4,644 submissions were received during the first round, according to the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs, which oversees the program.
Interested tenants and landlords were urged to go to the website to learn more about required documentation ahead of the Feb. 9 application opening, eligibility requirements and future workshop dates.
County officials said this round will build on the initial rollout, reduce barriers to entry for households experiencing economic instability, and ensure that assistance reaches eligible households more efficiently.
This second round adds an additional $14.6 million to the program, bringing the county’s investment to more than $44.6 million.
“This program exists because our county leadership understands how deeply a variety of emergencies have affected residents across the entire region,” said Rafael Carbajal, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs. “I encourage tenants and landlords who need help to visit the portal and apply as soon as possible.”
