Long Beach’s Belmont Shore neighborhood is in for a treat at the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games, with several major open water events happening off local shorelines, and even more events at nearby venues in Long Beach.

The neighborhood is known for its walkable beach-town feel, with plenty of pedestrian areas, 1920s and 1930s Spanish-style homes, and even Italian-style canals at nearby Naples Island.

LA28 at Belmont Shore and surrounding Long Beach venues

Belmont Shore is due to host Coastal Rowing, Open Water Swimming, and Sailing events at the LA28 Olympic Games.

It’ll be one of the Games’ key waterfront sites, and fans can watch epic competition moments from the shore, including windsurfing, kite, dinghy, skiff, and multihull. The women’s and men’s open water swimming competition is a 10 kilometer haul along the coast.

Belmont Shore is a walkable, 5-mile-long beach strip connecting to about 11 miles of waterways. Many of the best sights and sounds are concentrated around 2nd Street, which has cute boutiques, restaurants, and small businesses to explore.

Alamitos Bay and Naples Island serve as a scenic backdrop and are just a boat ride or bike ride away. Visitors often rent kayaks and paddleboards to explore the Naples Canals, or cycle along the paved Shoreline bike path.

You can reach Belmont Shore by car from L.A. in about 35-40 minutes via the 405 or 710 freeways, depending on traffic.
