BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man was found dead after a fire broke out in downtown Bakersfield early Monday morning.

The Bakersfield Fire Department was called to a reported commercial structure fire on February 9, 2026, at around 2:50 a.m. on F Street and 22nd Street.

Arriving firefighters found active fire conditions and initiated an interior fire attack along with a primary search.

BFD said during the search, a victim, identified as a male, was found inside the structure.

The Bakersfield Fire Department is currently investigating the commercial structure fire.

The origin and cause of the fire, as well as the cause of death, are unknown at this time and remain under investigation, according to the fire department.
