SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KGO) — A deadly shooting on Monday involving Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies is being independently investigated by the California Department of Justice, according to the office of State Attorney General Rob Bonta.
The shooting happened just before 3:20 a.m. on Selborne Dr. in the Fairmont Terrace neighborhood of San Leandro. The Sheriff’s Office has not released any information about the incident. However, Bonta’s office says it is being investigated under Assembly Bill 1506, which indicates the person who was shot was not armed.
AB 1506 was enacted in 2021 and requires the state Department of Justice to investigate any shooting involving law enforcement in California that results in the death of an unarmed civilian.
It’s unknown what led up to the shooting. The person has not been identified.
