SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego Museum Month is underway, offering half-off admission through February at more than 70 museums and attractions across San Diego County and Tijuana.

The annual program, which began Feb. 1, allows museum-goers to receive 50% off general admission for up to four people at each participating location by using a free printed or digital Museum Month pass. Passes are available at public libraries throughout the region or can be downloaded to a mobile phone.

“Museum Month invites everyone to rediscover the museums they love, explore places they’ve been curious about, and uncover something totally new, fun and unexpected,” said Tom Felkner, interim executive director of the San Diego Museum Council.

Participating sites include museums, aquariums, gardens, historic sites and state parks. Some locations are free or donation-based, providing additional low-cost options for visitors.

San Diego Museum Month was created in 1989 to promote the region’s cultural attractions during a typically slower time of year. More than 145,000 people participated in the program last year, according to the San Diego Museum Council.

Printed Museum Month passes are available at approximately 80 public libraries throughout the county, including city and county branches and libraries in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Coronado, Escondido, National City and Oceanside. Additional pickup locations include UC San Diego’s Geisel and Sally T. Wong Avery libraries, San Diego Law Library, City College Library and Oceanside Welcome Center. There is a limit of one printed pass per person.

For the first time, printed passes are also available at five libraries in Imperial County, including Brawley Public Library, Enrique S. “Kiki” Camarena Memorial Library, El Centro Public Library, Imperial County Free Library and Imperial Public Library.

Digital passes can also be downloaded directly to phones from the San Diego Museum Council website, where a full list of participating sites is also available.

Each Museum Month pass can be used multiple times through Feb. 28.

Discounts apply to full general admission and cannot be combined with other offers, including the Balboa Park Explorer pass. Additional fees may apply for special exhibitions or events. Some locations may accept printed passes only, while others may require advance reservations.
