SAN JOSE, CA — A mass shooting in downtown San Jose left five people injured Sunday night, according to police, hours after two men were killed in a separate shooting, also downtown.
Officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to the area of North Market Street and West Santa Clara Street, police said. Five adults were taken to local hospitals with varying gunshot injuries and all were expected to survive, according to police, who said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.
Streets were closed in the area for several hours, police said.
The shooter remained unidentified and outstanding as of Monday afternoon, according to police.
The incident came less than a day after two men were killed in a shooting just blocks away, according to police. That incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Paseo de San Antonio, police said.
“Preliminary information has revealed this to be an isolated incident,” police said in a news release Sunday morning about the fatal shooting. “The motive and circumstances surrounding the event are still under investigation.”
