The man who took a firearm from a police officer and shot himself was identified to be a former Madera County deputy, police say.

Fresno police say that 32-year-old Isaac Hare was a former Madera County deputy.

Police were investigating a grand theft at a Best Buy that occurred back in September, where the suspect impersonated an officer.

A photo captured the car and identified Hare as the suspect.

Authorities contacted Hare, who agreed to meet on Monday at the Northwest Policing District Substation.

Officers attempted to arrest Hare, but he began to resist arrest, resulting in officers using a taser.

It was discovered that Hare also had a concealed gun on him.

Hare was arrested for grand theft, impersonating an officer, resisting arrest, and gun-related charges.

Hare was transferred to CRMC to have his injury looked at, where he then took a gun from a police officer and shot himself.

Officers served a search warrant at Hare’s house, where they found guns, ammo, law enforcement uniforms, and police equipment.
