SAN FRANCISCO — Forty-niners edge rusher Keion White was wounded in a San Francisco shooting following Super Bowl 60.
According to a police statement obtained by The Associated Press, San Francisco officers responded to the shooting shortly after 4 a.m. and White was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 49ers said White was shot in the ankle.
“Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco,” the 49ers said in a statement. “He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”
San Francisco police also offered more context on the shooting.
“A preliminary investigation revealed a verbal altercation occurred between two groups inside a business,” police said, via the AP. “The victim was injured when shots were fired by an unknown suspect. All information is preliminary at this time, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.”
A second-round pick of the Patriots in 2023, White was traded to the 49ers just before this year’s trade deadline.
With his former team playing in Super Bowl 60, White voiced his support before the game, posting a photo in a Patriots jersey on social media with the caption, “Roll Pats.”
