San Francisco Unified School District campuses will be closed for a second straight day on Tuesday while teacher continue striking for a new contract.
The school closures will leave about 50,000 district students looking for another place to spend the day.
On Monday, hundreds of teachers walked off the job and onto picket lines. The teachers union said negotiations have stalled and there is little movement on their demands for better wages, fully funded healthcare and a stabilization in teacher staffing.
“They made really good progress on Saturday. And I was frustrated with yesterday,” Mayor Daniel Lurie said. “There seemed to be no discussions yesterday.”
Lurie has offered up the Veteran’s Memorial Hall as a site for the ongoing negotiations.
District leaders are expected to hold a news briefing Monday to provide updates on next steps and efforts to keep students engaged during the closure.
