OAKLAND, California — An Oakland man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for robbing a postal carrier, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office.
Joseph Michael McBee, a 30-year-old resident of Oakland, was charged with one count of robbery of a U.S. mail carrier on October 28, 2024, and pleaded guilty on October 20, 2025. According to the plea agreement, McBee stole a 2015 Kia Soul on October 10, 2023, and later assisted two accomplices, Ebony Reeves and Felix Wilson, in stealing a 2023 Toyota Camry from a dealership in Daly City. Reeves and Wilson have also pleaded guilty to related charges.
The trio drove around San Francisco searching for a mail carrier to rob. At approximately 10:25 a.m., they targeted a U.S. mail truck. McBee approached the mail carrier, demanding postal keys, and when refused, he assaulted the carrier, stealing his wallet and over 500 pieces of mail. The victim sustained bruising to both arms. The group later used the stolen credit card at a gas station in Oakland.
McBee was apprehended on October 31, 2023, following a dangerous car and foot chase. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition, stated the United States Attorney’s Office.
U.S. District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín also sentenced McBee to a three-year period of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ivana Djak, with assistance from Jessie Chelsea and Amala James, following an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
