FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A crucial hearing is now delayed for one of the teens accused in last year’s deadly Clovis McDonald’s shooting.

Action News is not naming her due to her age.

She is charged in juvenile court on one count of murder for the death of Caleb Quick last April.

Prosecutors have been pushing to have the case tried in adult court. A transfer hearing was set for early March.

It was pushed back to April 13 today, as the DA’s office asked for more time to prepare its expert.

Today, defense attorney Jeff Hammerschmidt objected, “I think they’ve had long enough. And if there’s a problem with April 13, at that point, she’ll be 11 months in custody without a hearing. And so, at some point, that’s just not fundamental fairness.”

The teenage boy suspect in the shooting is charged separately and faces his own transfer hearing.

It has not yet been set for him, but a judge is expected to schedule it when he returns to court later this month.

Both of Quick’s parents were in court today, and his father continues to call for a transfer to the adult system.
