A 40-year-old inmate at the Sacramento County Main Jail died after suffering a suspected seizure and undergoing surgery days later, authorities said.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A 40-year-old man being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail has died following a medical emergency, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies discovered the inmate suffering from what appeared to be a seizure around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.Â
Sacramento Fire Department personnel responded to the jail and took the man to a local hospital for treatment.
The inmate remained hospitalized for several days. On the evening of Sunday, Feb. 8, he underwent surgery but was pronounced deceased later that night, officials said.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office stated it will conduct a full inmate death investigation in accordance with department policy and state law.Â
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death and release the inmate’s identity following its standard protocols.
No additional details were released as the investigation continues.
