A Clovis woman was sentenced Monday to 18 months in federal prison for providing a firearm to her son, a convicted felon and gang member, authorities announced.
Jawana Washington, 45, of Fresno, was convicted on Sept. 3, 2025, following a one-day trial of aiding and abetting a felon in possession of a firearm and disposing of a firearm to a felon, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant said.
Court records show she knowingly lent her Springfield Armory XD-9 handgun to her son, Taylor Washington, on March 25, 2022, warning him not to do anything “crazy” and not to get her sent to jail. Minutes later, agents saw Taylor Washington leave her apartment in a vehicle, where police later recovered the gun during a traffic stop.
Taylor Washington, 24, was fatally shot on April 10, 2025, near Bardell and George avenues in Fresno. Officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert found him with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators recovered shell casings at the scene and said several vehicles were struck by gunfire.
Fresno police say his killing was gang-related.
