SAN DIEGO – Cal State Fullerton women’s golf controlled the San Diego State Classic from start to finish to take first place with a score of 12-under par 852. The Titans secure their first tournament victory of the season with Tuesday’s win at The Heights Golf Club. 

With a total score of 852, the Titans tie the program record for lowest 54-hole team score. Fullerton won the tournament by a total of 20 strokes, beating second place UC Irvine who finished 8-over par 872. 

Katharina Zeilinger led the way for the Titans, winning her first tournament individually with a 9-under par 207. Zeilinger’s 207 is the second best score in program history for a 54-hole tournament behind Martina Edberg’s 206 in 2016. 

Zeilinger was steady throughout all three rounds. The senior shot a 4-under par 68 in round one, followed by a 3-under par 69 in round two before finishing with a 2-under par 70 in the third and final round. 

Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith shot 4-under par 212 to place third at the San Diego State Classic for her third top-10 finish of the season. Zermeno Smith shot a 69 and 73 on day one of the tournament and finished with a 70 on day two in the final round. 

For the first time this season, the Titans had three golfers place in the top-10 with Davina Xanh finishing tied for ninth after shooting even par 216 (68-76-72). Xanh now has two top-10 placings on the year. 

Louise Dahl finished the two-day tournament tied for 17th with a score of 3-over par 219 (70-76-73). After placing tied for 17th, Dahl now has three top-20 finishes this season. Zara Ali shot 10-over par 226 (75-80-71) to place tied for 32nd. 

The Titans entered the week as the No. 42 team in the country and will only rise in the rankings after their tournament victory. 

1st – Katharina Zeilinger (68-69-70=207, -9)

3rd – Kaitlyn Zermeno Smith (69-73-70=212, -4)

T9th – Davina Xanh (68-76-72=216, E)

T17th – Louise Dahl (70-76-73=219, +3)

T32nd – Zara Ali (75-80-71=226, +10)
