BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Caltrans announces intermittent lane closures on Taft Highway until June 2026 for utility relocation operations as part of the Pumpkin Center Rehab project.

Caltrans said utility relocations are taking place on Taft Highway between Highway 99 and Ashe Road.

Caltrans said during this time:

Intermittent lane closures will be necessary to complete the required work.During lane closure periods, Taft Highway will operate under one-way traffic control through the work zone.Utility relocation operations are expected to continue into June 2026.

Caltrans said that closures may continue for longer periods of time, if necessary, due to delays caused by weather or uncontrollable events that may occur.

Construction crews will be conducting one-way traffic control during this time with the use of flagging personnel through the work zone. Commuters are reminded to obey flagging personnel and pay close attention to road construction vehicles and personnel.

Caltrans is reminding motorists that businesses at this location will remain open during construction and access to driveways will be maintained. The release said in part, “Please continue your patronage.”

In a release, it said, “Caltrans would like to thank residents and commuters for their patience during this project and remember to please ‘Slow for the Cone Zone.’”
