Nearly a week after a man was stabbed on the campus of Oakland University, no arrests have been made and an investigation continues.

The assault happened outside of Van Wagoner Hall on Feb.5, according to OU Police Chief Mark Gordon, and two suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV prior to police officers arriving. The male victim —- who is not a student — was stabbed multiple times and subsequently let inside by an unidentified person. Police responded to the scene at around 8:15 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls about a fight in progress, Gordon said.

First responders transported the victim to McLaren Oakland Hospital. No updates have been provided on his condition and whether he is still hospitalized.

On Feb.11, OU spokesperson Brian Bierley provided this statement to The Oakland Press: “This is a very active police investigation, but there is nothing new for our police chief to report at this moment. We understand the interest of our students, their parents and the public to know more and we do want to share that the Oakland University Police Department is working diligently to make an arrest in this case. Anyone with information that can assist our investigation should call the OUPD. When an arrest happens, we will make the police chief available for an update to the media and the public.”

Bierley said police believe the assault was an isolated and targeted incident — with no ongoing threat — so there hasn’t been any changes to campus safety protocols. Safety recommendations can be found at https://www.oakland.edu/police/campus-safety/.

The day after the attack, police said witnesses described the two suspects as black men in their early 20s. One suspect had chin-length dreadlocks, is 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and was wearing a black North Face jacket, black pants and white shoes with blue on the back at the time. The other suspect had short curly hair and was wearing a camouflage jacket with a black hood, black pants and black shoes at the time.

The campus was put on lockdown following the assault and reopened the next morning. Anyone with further information on the incident is asked to contact the Oakland University Police Department at 248-370-3331.
