THE FESTIVAL’S PROMOTERS ANNOUNCED THURSDAY THAT THEY WILL BE PUTTING THE FESTIVAL ON PAUSE FOR 2025. MIKE TESTA, WITH VISIT SACRAMENTO, SAYS THIS IS A HUGE BLOW TO THE CITY. IT’S WELL OVER $10 MILLION IN ECONOMIC IMPACT THAT’S, YOU KNOW, STAYS AT HOTELS. THAT’S RIDESHARES, THAT’S TRAFFIC THROUGH THE AIRPORT, THAT’S AT THE RESTAURANTS AND BARS. SO YEAH, ECONOMICALLY IT’S A BIG HIT FOR SACRAMENTO. THE FESTIVAL PROMOTERS SAY THERE’S A SATURATION OF COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVALS, AND THEY JUST CAN’T DRAW THE BIG NAMES. STONEY’S ROCK AND RODEO IS ANOTHER COUNTRY THEMED RESTAURANT AND BAR THAT SITS LESS THAN THREE MILES FROM THE FESTIVAL GROUNDS MANAGER EVAN IVERSON SAYS THAT WEEKEND ALONE DRAWS NEARLY A THOUSAND PEOPLE A NIGHT TO HIS BAR. WE ALMOST DOUBLE OUR NUMBERS, TYPICALLY ON THOSE WEEKENDS. ON THAT WEEKEND, BECAUSE, YEAH, WE’RE JUST SO CONVENIENTLY LOCATED FOR EM, AND WE’RE A COUNTRY BAR MISSING OUT ON GOLDEN SKY. One of the largest country music festivals in Northern California will not happen this year, the second year in a row that organizers have pushed back the event.”We’ve made the decision to take one additional year to ensure that GoldenSky returns at the right time and at the level our fans, artists and partners expect,” said Danny Wimmer Presents, the promoter for the GoldenSky Country Music Festival, in a statement to KCRA 3. In February 2025, organizers said the reason for putting off a 2025 festival was because of an oversaturation of country music festivals, creating a challenge in attracting larger country names.GoldenSky is a multi-day festival that draws tens of thousands of people to Sacramento’s Discovery Park. When the 2025 cancellation was announced, Visit Sacramento estimated it would result in a $10 million loss for the city.Danny Wimmer Presents anticipates a return in 2027. The company also organizes Aftershock, a multi-day festival that primarily attracts heavy metal and hard rock.This postponement comes as Sacramento officials in recent years have boasted about elevating the city’s music festival scene.
