Mardi Gras is glittering in the not-so-far-off distance, with all of its Bourbon Street songs and energy-filled, super-exuberant displays of “laissez les bon temps rouler” spirit.

For Southern Californias who won’t be able to “let the good times roll” in New Orleans at the Feb. 17 festivity, there is the Original Farmers Market, a celebratory spot that breaks out the brassy sounds and super-toothsome beignets, each year.

And while there shall be reveling on Fat Tuesday proper, the party begins at the historic public market, which has held warm and welcoming court at the corner of Third & Fairfax for almost 92 years, early.

And by “early” we do mean you can dance by the clocktower’d landmark starting on Saturday, Feb. 14 for live New Orleans-style zydeco, the tasty NOLA stylings of the Gumbo Pot, and the rollicking noon o’clock Mutti Gras Pet Parade.

There are awards for the pups named King and Queen, woof woof, as well as the Jester’s Pick “(f)or the wildest, most creative costumes and floats — anything goes!”

For sure, some of the Fidos arrive in wagons festooned with royal decorations, and plenty of beads to add French Quarter flair.

Entering is free, and you’ll want to sign up ahead of time, so your cutie struts away with a goodie bag.

The meet-up spot for this plucky pooch procession? Head to the clocktower before noon, and definitely by 11:45 to queue up.

For all of the music, beignet-riffic temptations, and Mutti-moxie parade info, kick up your heels and head by the Original Farmers Market site for all of the Mardi Gras must-dos and must-knows.

And good to know? While woofable royalty will be in the spotlight at noon on Feb. 14, merry Mardi Gras goings-on will take place at the market on Feb. 14, 15, and 17.
