LONG BEACH, CA — Three Southern California cities — Long Beach, Los Angeles and San Diego — are among the world’s three least affordable locations for homebuyers, a new report has found, according to a Los Angeles Times article.
When the price of a standard house is compared to regular local salaries, Long Beach, L.A., San Diego and San José were among the five least affordable cities in the world, according to the survey, which was conducted in late 2025 by financial services provider Remitly.
“Long Beach is often seen as a more affordable alternative to LA. However, globally, it’s still one of the least affordable cities to buy a home in,” the Remitly report states. “Single buyers, earning the average income, can’t quite afford a third (31.7%) of the average home, thanks to pricey properties which have surged over recent years.”
