Earlier this week, Yolo County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 47-year-old man after being alerted to several beehive boxes that appeared in a remote area of northeastern Yolo County.
The suspect, identified as Leonid Terzi of Sacramento, was arrested on multiple felony charges related to the theft.
According to a Yolo County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, agricultural investigators located the live hives on Feb. 10 and found they had been altered, apparently to conceal identifying markings. Deputies stated that while they monitored the area, they observed a suspect return to the site and continue modifying the hives.
The investigation remains ongoing. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office requests that anyone with information regarding the theft or discovery of related apiary equipment contact law enforcement.
