YOLO COUNTY — Call it a case of mis-bee-having.
On Tuesday, agricultural crime investigators arrested a 47-year-old Sacramento man in connection with the theft of beehives worth tens of thousands of dollars, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Investigators found the hives in a remote area in the northeastern part of the county and determined someone had made an effort to conceal their identifying markings.
While keeping an eye on the site, investigators saw the suspect return and continue to modify the hives.
Investigators determined the hives had been stolen, the sheriff’s office said, adding that they were “valued in the high tens of thousands of dollars.” The hives were recovered and returned to their owner.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect was arrested on multiple felony charges related to the theft.
