The Portland Timbers surrendered the final two goals of the game to fall 3-2 to San Jose at the Coachella preseason tournament Wednesday in California.

The Timbers tied the game in the 30th minute when Kristoffer Velde bumped a ball out of a crowd and converted a sharp-angled shot from close range on the left side.

Velde struck again on a header five minutes later to send Portland into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

Timbers goalie Hunter Sulte went up high to knock away a Quakes shot at the near post to maintain the slim lead early in the second half, but San Jose scored twice down the stretch to pick up the win.
