OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – A 31-year-old woman has pleaded no contest to child abuse for leaving her three children in a feces-filled apartment.

The 12-year-old daughter of Teriomas Tremice Johnson called Pontiac police in November to report there had been a break-in at their apartment, according to WDIV. Police instead discovered the girl and two 9-year-olds were living with three cats, clogged sinks and inoperable plumbing. The children were using a cardboard box as a toilet.

Their mother was not present, and the children said they had not seen her since the day prior.

The children have been placed with family members, WDIV reports.

Johnson pleaded no contest to three charges of second-degree child abuse on Tuesday, Feb. 10 before Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Yasmine Poles, according to court records.

She is set to be sentenced April 14.
