BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A recording of the threat to Cal State Bakersfield last Monday captures exactly what a caller said on the phone to prompt a lockdown.

CSUB went into lockdown in the afternoon of Feb. 2 after an anonymous caller threatened a shooting at the campus.

The university shared the audio recording with 17 News.

“In 20 minutes, I’m gonna come into the university with my AR-15 and I’m gonna shoot everyone I see and then blow myself up,” the caller said.

“Uh… Can I ask why?” the CSUB employee asked.

“You don’t need to know that, just know I’ll be there in 20 minutes,” the caller replied. “I’m currently on Ming Avenue.”

The school sent alerts just after 3 p.m. asking people to shelter in place and barricade doors, but some students reported not getting an alert or getting it at different times.

CSUB Chief of Police Mari Gonzalez said it was due to issues in the system identified by the third-party vendor. The school is now seeking a new vendor, though nothing has been finalized yet.

Information about the caller has not yet been confirmed.
