Tame Impala’s newly announced summer arena run has set off a familiar annual ritual among Outside Lands obsessives: scouring the tour itinerary like it’s a treasure map.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, the Australian psychedelic rock band unveiled a North American tour that begins July 7 in Miami and ends Sept. 19 in Houston, with support split between Djo on the front half and Dominic Fike on the back, according to the announcement.
But the itinerary is notable for what it leaves out: no California dates and a conspicuous opening in August, the month Outside Lands typically takes over Golden Gate Park.
On Reddit, fans have floated practical explanations – including festival “radius clause” restrictions – while also pointing to history.
“With how soon OSL ran it back with Glass Animals, Vampire Weekend and Tyler (the Creator), it’s entirely possible we get Tame Impala back after 5 years,” wrote one user on the Outside Lands forum, noting the band led by multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker previously performed at the festival in 2021.

The guessing game doesn’t end there. Several major artists who have recently announced tours also appear to have open August windows based on publicly available schedules.
British pop star Harry Styles, who has largely stayed off the road since wrapping his blockbuster “Love On Tour,” has been the subject of persistent comeback rumors tied to festival season. Indie rockers Death Cab for Cutie – a frequent festival presence with deep Bay Area roots – has dates scattered across the summer but leaves strategic gaps that fans have flagged. Singer-songwriter Mitski, another Outside Lands alum, likewise has routing that keeps early August flexible.
Other acts circulating in fan forums include Dave Matthews Band, the Black Keys, Blood Orange, Gorillaz and Sierra Ferrell.
At the same time, some names can be safely moved to the “not happening” pile because of other Bay Area commitments around the same window. Bruno Mars, Pavement, Wednesday, Noah Kahan and Kid Cudi, for instance, appear effectively ruled out.
Outside Lands is promoted by Another Planet Entertainment, which typically reveals its lineup in March.
